Job Summary:

The General Manager assumes responsibility and is accountable for customer retention and the profitability of each department in the dealership on behalf of MileOne. These responsibilities are fulfilled through the use of sound business management practices, effective personnel management, and knowledge of market potential, established performance standards, and a keen awareness of each department's data. This person plans, motivates, and coordinates the activities of the management team.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • In accordance with company policies the General Manager hires, trains, and motivates all dealership department managers
  • Directs and monitors all dealership management or supervisory personnel functions and completes formal performance evaluations of all department managers at regularly scheduled intervals
  • Plans dealership operations for the coming year and submits to the dealer for approval
  • Participates in the preparation of the annual dealership forecast by projecting unit sales, gross profits, expenses, and operating profits for all departments.
  • Meets with all department managers to establish annual and monthly objectives for unit sales, gross profits, expenses, and operating profit and review previous months actual performance
  • Ensures that sales managers (new and used) understand dealership policies, procedures, and sales systems
  • Monitors the daily operating control, recommending improved courses of action where necessary
  • Provides MileOne with weekly reports on the financial condition of the dealership
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with lending institutions and manufacturer personnel
  • Communicates management policies and procedures to all employees and ensures that they are understood and followed
  • Provides enthusiastic leadership to help shape employees' attitudes and build morale
  • Holds regularly scheduled Managers meetings to ensure that every department is operating efficiently and profitably
  • Reviews all requests for training, approves those which are appropriate and consistent with the dealership's goals for professional/technical ability and advancement, and monitors their effectiveness
  • Reviews and recommends compensation plans for all employees
  • Coordinates with the business office to ensure that records and analyses are maintained accurately
  • Develops merchandising strategies and assists in creating effective, cost-efficient advertising programs
  • Resolves any customer complaints that department managers are unable to rectify

Job Requirements


  • Proven ability to close the sale
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technician procedures, or government regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; “think on your feet”
  • Provide effective communication throughout the dealership as well as interdepartmentally
  • Self-Starter with proven ability to seek out new ways to build opportunities for the dealership and customer satisfaction
  • High level of initiative and ability to work in a team
  • Basic MS Office knowledge; computer software, internet proficiency and general mathematic skills
  • Valid Driver’s License, with no more than two moving violations
